Top 5 Fastest Ironman Courses
I don’t know about you, but when I selected my A race, I thought choosing a difficult course would be a great idea. You know, something that would really test my limits and push me to my absolute best. And I felt pretty good about my decision for the first few weeks of training.
But now, as the race looms closer and closer, I’m starting to regret my decision. Why did I think it was a good idea to choose a course with insane hills and unforgiving terrain? Was I trying to prove something to myself? To the world? To my ex, who said I’d never make it as a triathlete? Who knows.
All I know is that now, as I stare down the barrel of this grueling course, I can’t help but think that it would have been better to select a fast course. You know, one of those races where the swim is smooth as glass, the bike course is flat as a pancake, and the run is practically downhill. Ah, yes, that would have been the life.
But alas, I am stuck with this brutal course, so I might as well make the best of it. And who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself and actually finish the darn thing.
Now, in case any of you are in the same boat as me and are looking for a fast course to conquer, here are the top five fastest 140.6 Ironman races:
- Ironman Florida: This race takes place in sunny Panama City Beach, Florida, and features a flat bike course and a calm swim in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Ironman Coeur d’Alene: This beautiful race takes place in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and features a stunning lake swim, a mostly flat bike course, and a mix of flat and hilly terrain for the run.

- Ironman Louisville: This challenging race takes place in Louisville, Kentucky, and features a swim in the Ohio River, a bike course with rolling hills, and a run with a mix of flat and hilly terrain.
- Ironman Texas: This race takes place in The Woodlands, Texas, and features a calm lake swim, a flat and fast bike course, and a mostly flat run course that’s perfect for setting a new personal record.
