Top Watches for Triathlon and How to Select the Right One
You saw a great deal on a watch to track your triathlon training and the reviews were pretty good. So, you pull the trigger and buy the watch. It arrives and everyone said it was a great purchase, but six months later you are running down a trail with two watches because you needed functionalities that the other did not have while wondering “why did I get this watch”.
Much like you, I never thought it would make this mistake, but guess who has been running with two watches? To avoid making the same mistake, I recommend doing the following:
- Make a list of the functionality you need – what are the functionalities that are “must-haves” and “nice-to-haves”? Make sure your list is realistic and accurate. If you think about these requirements, you will realize that there are considerations that you forgot and some entries that will shift from one column to another.
- Check recommendations – Once you have a list of features that are important to you, find the product that meets your requirements and check for recommendations. Read some “expert” recommendations. These recommendations will highlight the functionality and discuss the positives and negatives of the watch. However, be careful… many recommendations are sponsored by the manufacturer and could be biased. Read multiple recommendations before narrowing down your list.
- Read reviews – Once you have narrowed down the list of watches to a more manageable number, it’s time to get feedback from regular users. The best source is your friend. However, if they do not own the watch you will have to rely on the internet… sites like Amazon. Make sure you read multiple reviews.
- Find the right price – After deciding on the watch, it’s time to find that deal. It’s best to get current market value by searching through the internet. Based on the urgency of your need, you may be able to sit back and wait until a good deal appears. However, if you are anything like me, you will get impatient and buy the best price I find on the internet.
To get you started, here are the top three watches for this season. I will give you highlights, but go out there, do additional research and see if any of these watches fit your need.
